Ok, so it’s quite late in the year to be saying “check out these predictions” but I came across e-consultancy’s list of trends to watch out for this year and thought it was a great round-up of what people are saying right now.
Here’s the full list “Ten digital trends to watch out for in 2008“
And the ten are:
-
Social networks advertising becomes scalable
-
Privacy will continue to be a sensitive issue
-
Internet advertising will overtake radio advertising in the US
-
Open Source will continue to dominate
-
The rise of the semantic web
-
Mobile web expected to explode in 2008
-
Video gains ground as a popular advertising medium
-
Local search marketing and advertising platforms can expect growth
-
Behavioural targeting will become more widespread – and something which is expected
-
Fear of recession will shift advertising budgets to online media

I agree with your predictions about local search marketing and coming shift to online media! Consumers (and not just the young and “web-savvy”) are using the internet as their first resource to find goods and services whether online or off, and simply not paying attention to the traditional methods of advertising. Why spend money for a TV ad asking someone to use your business when you can simply make sure your business ranks high in the search engine hits?

Comment by darika July 18, 2008 @ 8:54 amI can’t take credit for the future gazing stuff but a lot of it was food for thought. I still think traditional marketing approaches can work well alongside online.
It’s all about allocating your media spend where it creates the most impact, and that could be across several areas.
